This traditional Saya fabric is a blend of silk and cotton. It was woven in Syria and brought to Palestine. The fabric “al-Saya” is a type of conventional textile made from silk or satin, which gives it a distinct shine and soft texture. It was commonly used in the Levant, especially in Syria, Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon, and is often associated with traditional and rural clothing.

Usage:

Al-Saya is used to decorate the Palestinian thobe, either as a belt wrapped around the waist or as part of the overall design of the dress.
The fabric comes in various colors, often coordinated with the embroidery on the thobe.

Examples of Al-Saya Use:
• Waist Belt:
A belt made from colorful Saya fabric is worn around the waist and typically matches the colors of the thobe.
• Thobe Decoration:
Al-Saya may also be used to decorate other parts of the thobe, such as the sleeves or chest area, adding a unique aesthetic touch.
• The Palestinian Qumbaz:
In some regions, the men’s traditional garment is known as the Qumbaz, which is often made of soft, striped Saya fabric.
